Does ADT Work with Google Home And Amazon Alexa?

It’s no secret ADT has protected families for over 150 years, but you might ask yourself if this trusted name in residential security is able to offer the modern convenience of voice activation. The answer is an absolute yes! ADT does work with Google Home and Amazon Alexa, and there’s plenty you can accomplish. Explore what’s possible and get suggestions for incorporating voice activation into your comprehensive home security system.

What Can You Do With Voice Commands In Your Boston Home?

Now that you know you can control your ADT home security with Google Home and Amazon Alexa, you’re probably curious as to what you might do. Here are a few examples:

When you have your hands full with dinner, kids, or groceries, and need a quick way to turn on lights or change the temperature, just say the command. It’s easy and allows you to control your system without picking up your phone or using the touchscreen panel.

Manage Your ADT Devices With These Voice Commands

A quick verbal command is all you need to operate your integrated ADT devices. Just remember, if you verbalize a command to a specific device, like your front door lock or bedroom light, you must use the same name you used when first configuring the device.

Here are a few commands that work with Google Home:

  • Hey Google, arm my system stay.
  • Hey Google, arm my system away.
  • Hey Google, lock the (door name).
  • Hey Google, turn on the (light name).
  • Hey Google, turn the heat up by 4 degrees.

Amazon Alexa has somewhat different phrasing, but it operates about the same. Here are some sample commands:

  • Alexa, arm ADT in stay mode
  • Alexa, disarm ADT
  • Alexa, turn on the (light name).
  • Alexa, set (dimmer name) to 60%.
  • Alexa, set the (thermostat name) to 70 degrees.

You can also use voice commands to ask questions. You might want to check if a door is locked or the current temperature setting of your thermostat. Just speak a command like, “Hey Google, what is the temperature of the thermostat?” and you’ll receive a reply.

Is There Anything You Can’t Do With Voice Commands?

Voice activation does have some restrictions. For example, you can’t modify settings in your ADT app by saying a command. You also must supply a PIN number when completing certain tasks, such as turning off your alarm system or unlocking a door.

How To Configure Voice Activation In Your Boston Home

Setting up voice activation is straightforward no matter what smart speaker you use. You’ll follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Amazon Alexa or Google Home app on your phone
  2. In Google, head to Devices or touch the Add (+) icon and select Works with Google Home. In the Alexa app, press the menu, then select Skills & Games.
